I am selling my 1940 Mercury Convertible. Kids are going off to college, so it is tuition time. I purchased the car about 10 years ago and it has been a very dependable car show participant and a fun driver. I even took it on a Highway 1 road trip - what a blast. I highly recommend doing that. Always gets a thumbs up and smiles as it has a certain amount of class, elegance and style only brought out by the 1940 style of American motoring. It also helps that it has a stunning black finish with a matching black convertible top. Top up is optional. I have replaced only a couple of items: Top, Transmission, Exhaust and Fuel Tank. Original car - Not hot rodded at all with the cool flat head motor that does not burn any oil and is very healthy and easy to work on. Very dependable and fun to drive. Older restoration, but very presentable and 100% mechanically sound. Sorry no AC, USB plugs, Navigation or Power Steering only a AM radio - nostalgic to the period. History of the Mercury - 1939 saw the introduction of Mercury as its very own brand, an all-new car, sharing no body panels with any Ford or Lincoln, theMercury was six inches wider than the 1939 Ford with a 116-inch wheelbase (four inches longer). To minimize production costs, in place of developing a division-specific engine, the Mercury was offered with a 95hp Ford Flathead V8, expanded to 239 cubic inches. Over 65,800 1939 Mercury cars were sold, at a starting price of $916 (approximately $16,090 in 2016 dollars). Not many new cars were built around WW2, making this Mercury a unique bit of history. Officially called the 09A in 1940, it was referred to the Eight in marketing literature because the official name didn\'t sound very enticing. The body is super straight and the doors close with a solid thump. The paintwork is good and the chrome has shine. Dual mirrors as well as white will tires with factory hubcaps round out the classic look. The interior features lovely tan leather that is good. The metal dashboard is spotless and features cool blue colored accents. Full instrumentation is present, as is a large clock. Fitted with the 239cid Flathead V8, this Mercury is a great runner as well as being very reliable with easy to find parts. The 3-speed column shifter makes for an easy and comfortable cruiser and the ride is uncommonly smooth. You won\'t find another two door in this kind a shape ready to go.I am a private party that loves and drives classic automobiles. I have downloaded a number of pictures and I am willing to answer any questions at any time. I do have access to an enclosed trailer and can work out shipping if the buyer is interested. I would like to see this gem go to someone who enjoys classic motoring.
