This car is a daily driver that has never let us down. It has the 225 slant six single bbl carburetor engine, 3 speed 904 automatic transmission, and a 7-1/4 rear axle.
Equipped with Power steering, Manual Drum Brakes all around, and 13\" wheels. This is a no-nonsense commuter car, but manages to get thumbs up on a regular basis wherever it goes.
The good:-The engine is out of an early 80\'s truck, so it has hydraulic lifters and valve adjustments are not requiredCylinder head rebuilt 2 years ago
Timing chain, carburetor, throttle cable, muffler & tailpipe, replaced 2 years agoFuel lines on engine re-routed with addition of fuel pressure regulator
-The transmission was removed and completely resealed two years ago, and received new linkage bushings & trans mount at the same time.
-Rear axle bearings and seals replaced last year
-Rear leaf spring shackles & mounts replaced last year, along with the addition of rear air shocks-Idler arm replaced last year. Front end is tight.
-Brakes 100% gone through about 2 years ago with all new drums, hardware, shoes, wheel cyls., master cyl., brake cables-Tires are all good, but fronts have more tread life. Two extra rims included in addition to the spare tire.-Gas tank and fuel gauge sending unit replaced about a year ago -Glass is all good. Some hazing around outer edges of windshield. Windshield also has small chip and some typical peppering.
-Instrumentation and lighting working with the exceptions listed below
The Bad:-Engine burns oil and could use a ring job. As they say, you can\'t kill a slant six...but in case you do, included with the auction is another 225 engine out of a \'73 Duster, complete with transmission, if winning bidder wants it.Lifters make noise sometimes, then quiet down after driving a while.
-Car has developed an intermittent pull to the left when applying the brakes once they are hot-Dash pad has some splits-Seat upholstery has some rips, although headliner is real nice
-Two am/fm radios in car. One is dead, and the other randomly will work when it feels like it. I never checked into the wiring to straighten it out.
-The interior lights only turn on from the driver\'s door switch-Driver side carpet is torn under mat.
-Windshield & trunk leak slightly during very heavy rains-Actual mileage unknown. Engine not original. The Ugly!-Inner & outer fenders, quarters and rockers all have rust issues. Some spots on the floor starting to show rust, as well.
Body is what you might expect from 50 years of daily driving...some shopping cart dents. Side moldings peeling, bumpers a bit banged up, etc. You don\'t need to worry about who you park next to!When we were under the car changing the brake cables and exhaust, the frame was solid. A-Body cars of this vintage typically have a rust problem in the frame under the control arms. Not so with this car. This car has been a faithful servant for a long time, and if it wasn\'t for having too many cars on our property, we\'d keep it. It\'s a good old car, that could use a good home and a little TLC.
