1969Hurst / Olds car # 403 Demmer Documented

1of 922 made, One of 553 on the Demmer list ,one of Oldsmobile’s Hottest Musclecars ever made!!

Iam an Oldsmobile enthusiast and I have many rare 68-72 cars, I have restored, fixedup, raced, worked on these cars since I was 16 years old.. I bought thisback in 2007 to restore , I looked for a few years to find one to buy, butsince I have restored so many cars I could not handle all the warmed over junkout there. So I started looking for a car that had to be documented, rust free,a solid base And I found the # 403 Hurst olds,A barn find Hurst!

Thisis a Texas rust free car, now what does that mean? Sure there’s surface rust on parts but whenthe part is sand blasted it does not have crater sized pits in it.. It’s easyto restore.. This is a solid car the floors and trunk floor are solid, The bodyand doors are solid the fenders have the normal small rust holes in the bottom..This is what show cars start from! SOLID CARS!

Mostlyall the Hurst olds hard to find parts are there.. dash, gauges, sport steeringwheel , bucket seats , Hurst shifter and console. 15” Hurst wheels, Hurst outsidemirrors, hood scoop, rare air cleaner it’s all there! The car has its original rear axle 3;42gear the engine and trans is period correct but notnumbers matching, but could be pretty easily . and I have theOH trans tag that comes with the car NOS in the delco wrapper. This would be a great car to restore or justfix it up and drive it .. At the auction a restored car of this rarity wouldbring 90-135 depending on the quality of the restoration. So there is plenty ofroom for someone to buy the car fix it up or restore and make $$$ .. I am just toobusy and I’m in the process of restoring a 68 Hurst olds , I have since boughta low mile 69 Hurst Olds with one repaintfor my collection (that is the last 2 pictures of course that car is not included in the listing).. So This one is for sale..

I also have some parts that I have collected for the restoration that do not come with the car but are available to the new owner.D heads , intake,it is not included with the car as I bought theseseparate.. and will offer to the new owner of the car first..

It does have a brand new $650.00 Inline tube Exhaust system on the car that has never had exhaust through it. It was the car used to mock up these systems so it is perfect with all the hangers. It comes with everything you see in the photos also, everything in the trunk and everything in the interior. everything pictured goes with the car.

This car does not run its been sitting since2005 ,There is not much I do not know about these cars, as I have been restoringthem for 30 years. I am open to reasonable offers. I can help in the shippingof the car , This means I will assist the shipper in any way possible to makesure the car is loaded properly , you will have to make shipping arrangement’son you own , There lots of companies out there that do this , if you purchasethe car I can provide some names .. The last picture in the add is my restored Hurstto give you an idea of what the car looks like fully restored. Fun facts below..

1969 Hurst/Olds funthings to know

the original DuPont laquercode, according to a 6/69 bulletin, for the gold stripes was 5196LO? And itlists it as FIREFROST!

all the cars started life as aCameo White 442 with NO emblems installed?

the entire Demmer conversionprocess consisted of adding mirrors, scoop (and hood hole), spoiler, paintstripes, air cleaner shroud, shifter, painting grill area and all H/O emblems?

if you have the originaltransmission installed, you can tell the number off the Oldsmobile assemblyline by the tranny #? Subtract 1000 from the 4 digit number, and there you haveit.

apparently, so far, transmission numbers reflect that at LEAST 922, maybe more, '69 H/O's weremade. An old original was found in the weeds recently, with the tranny numberOH-69-1922. This is one of the last 4 or 5 built to have records on it.

two styles of scoops were used, one with extra matting underneath (late, "X" shaped), and one without(early)?

"D" heads were on all69 H/Os? Some claims have been made that "C" heads were used on someA/C cars, but so far, no hard evidence to support it. 1968 did use"C"s on the A/C cars, however.

the H/O did NOT come with hoodpins as shown in many car mags of the era, but a lot of people installed them?

the air cleaner assembly topflapper and vacuum actuator was a FORD design?

the air cleaner inside lid hada standard "Oldsmobile Rocket 455" decal on it?

the air cleaner "Keep yourcar all GM" decal was exclusively coded "OW"? (I've seen"PP" at car shows. Nope. Wrong one.)

the air cleaner element isAC366C or equivalent?

all had an "IBM" cardwith them, some of the later ones even had typed instructions saying to ship toDemmer?

H/O grilles were the same as442 grilles, except the inside of the headlight bezels were blacked out? (stillleft silver edge trim) However, some later ones were also completely flatblack.

the factory promo photo showedthe H/O decal on the hood scoop in different configuration compared to theproduction one?

the TH400 transmission code is"OH"?

the camshaft was a milderversion than the 68 H/O, and was used in every car, regardless of options?

the glove box emblem (nottalking about the plaque) was clear plastic, chrome mylar-backed decal?

that the dash plaque listed thecar number as a Hurst Performance registration number, NOT the sequentialnumber?

Not all H/Os came with the dashplaque? Original owner had to register with Hurst to get it.

the mirrors were non-remote, andwere imported from England? (and no, they weren't Talbot mirrors)

the promotional cars did NOThave the PCV valve coming out of the intake?

some real early editions of thecars had WHITE pinstripe on the edges of the gold on the headrests? (laterdropped)

Kurt Karch is the 69 H/Oadvisor for the Hurst/Olds Club of America, and he knows just about everythingabout the 69 H/Os the Hurst dual-gateshifter is warranted forever against material defects, and Mr. Gasket willstill honor that warranty?

the paint stripes were paintedon the cars with all the chrome/stainless left in place? (Taped up, only way todo a PROPER resto)

the carb number was a common7029251 on all 69 H/Os? (or 29251 as well.)

except for a few promotionalcars, all the cars were built in a time frame spanning from the fourth week ofMarch to the last week of May?

the rear end codes were SH(3.23), SJ(3.42), and SL (3.91)? 3.23 only available with air, 3.42 standardw/o air, 3.91 opt w/o air.

the factory colors were code50- Cameo white (can still get under code 11 though, same color), with HurstGold Fire Frost stripes outlined with black pinstripe?

Demmer Corporation (who convertedthe cars) has a gallon of Hurst Gold Fire Frost laquer that DuPont reproducedin Base/Clear formula?

it normally took about 1 day toget the cars converted?

one man was responsible forpinstriping the black on all cars (same guy pinstriped all the 68's also)?

according to Demmer, the H/Oemblems were plastic, instead of the advertised die-cast?

some of the very early H/Oemblems were "metallized" by a process of adding a copper plate thenchrome plate over the plastic? Later versions did not have the copperunderplating.

the intake manifold number is405233 (cast iron) which was predecessor to the 70 W-30 aluminum intake?

all interior codes were 930,which meant black vinyl with bucket seats?

all were built in Lansing?

the factory guage package wasoptional, not standard as many believe, but was included in a majority of cars?

the A/C optioned cars were morelimited in production than the non-air cars?

the custom steering wheel (N-30straight bar) was standard, and the 3-spoke wheel was OPTIONAL (N34)?

the factory W-46 optionconsisted of the 15x7 special wheels and F-60x15 Goodyear Polyglas GT tires, and although they wouldn't admit it and wasn't listed, the 455?

Because of the tires, the H/Ohad its own exclusive tire pressure decal on the driver's door.

the W-46 option was the factory"code" for the H/O, regardless of air or non-air configuration? (68used 2 codes, W-45 and W-46)

roughly about two-thirds wereequipped WITHOUT A/C?

the body plate on supposedlyall showed a Cutlass body but had a 442 VIN?

all but the convertible VINsstarted as 344879Mxxxxxx? The convertibles were 344679Mxxxxxx. 3 convertibleswere made, reports of maybe as many as 5!

the VINs on all the 69 H/Oswere NOT sequential?

the area underneath the rearhood grilles was painted black?

power disc brakes (JL2) weremandatory with the W-46 option?

the H/O and W-32 shared thesame distributor number? (1111989 and the extremely hard to find 1111973)

69Hurst/Olds Gold Paint

The formula given is for onepint (DuPont says it’s enough to do one car’s stripes when thinned, but I’dpersonally go with a quart) of the more expensive ChromaPremier. I recommendtest spraying the mix first to make sure that it’s what you want. Take this to yourDuPont jobber. It MAY be under the name of "69 Hurst/Olds Gold". Itwasn’t in the computer systems last I checked. If you need a quart, double theamounts shown.

Cost code from DuPont:(important) F

4530S Flop Control Agent 45.4

890J Transox Yellow 86.0

894J Extra Coarse Alum 109.3

845J Transp Yellow 131.0

895J Bright Coarse Alum 149.9

802J LS White 161.1

832J Green 162.0

1005S Gold Pearl 180.7

1008S Moss Green Pearl 181.0

62320F Binder 326.3

62330F Balancer 457.5

The Cameo White, on the otherhand, is NOT listed as "Cameo White" any more. It is listed as afleet color, and the ChromaPremier color is listed as 5033F, under the fleetcolor "Dover White", a Kunkel Services color. However, it IS theexact same color as "Cameo White", the old code 50 color. Or, you canuse the 72 H/O color code 11 as well, since this too was "CameoWhite". I believe they STILL might have this one listed.
