This first day of production 1970 Chevelle LS5 454 Muncie 4-Speed was built at the Leeds plant in Kansas City, MO, the third week of August, 1969. As stated in the documentation: \"It is known that at least Kansas City plant was building Chevelles in August of 1969 - as early as August 12 it is calculated by the date on one August 28 build sheet.\"
I used to drive this car to car shows, but was approached by a well-known expert who asked me where I found this car with this early production number. He told me that I should not drive the car, that it is, indeed a first day of production car, and as such, belongs in a museum or a private collection.
Here\'s the history I have discovered through research so far:
It was originally delivered to Weeks\' Chevrolet dealership in Hohenwald, Tennessee, where it remained in only two Tennessee counties for most of its life, which was largely spent on the drag strip. This car was drag raced until the motor failed, which was then replaced with another Kansas City 1970 LS5 454, and was later moved to Illinois 5 years ago, where it underwent a thorough restoration.
