Pontiac was trying to compete with rising insurance costs and higher car prices when they came up with the GT-37. This was for the most part what Pontiac was trying to achieve when it came up with The Judge. But the GTO Judge still carried a price tag and high insurance premiums. So in 1970, Pontiac engineers took a base T-37 and added performance goods from the GTO for their new GT-37 option. These performance options included a base 350 engine all the way up to the 455 HO engines. Rally II wheels without trim rings, 70 series white letter tires, dual exhaust with rear valance cutouts and dual exhaust tips, dual sport painted mirrors with LH remote, hood pins. Optional stripes borrowed from the GTO and all of the performance options available. But to keep the price low which was the desired goal. GT-37 base cars had no carpet (rubber mat), no power options, no floor insulation, void of some trim including the Pontiac emblem in the grille and only one coat hook. Top it off GT-37 came with bench seats only. Of course you could option a GT-37 out if one desired. After a short run in 1970 Pontiac continued the GT-37 for 1971 and ended the model year with a little over 5800 units sold before it was discontinued. 1971 1/2 models now included a specific reflective stripes included in the option list and the GTO borrowed stripes were no longer available. Some car magazine testing at the time listed as the GT-37 when ordered with the 455 HO 4 speed where some of the fastest cars as they were void of a lot of weight due to it\'s stripped down options.
1971 1/2 PONTIAC GT-37 350 2BBL / 2 SPEED AUTOMATIC / POWER BRAKES / POWER STEERING / AIR CONDITIONING (in-op, but all there).EXTREMELY RARE COLOR. CODE 61 SANDALWOOD WAS VERY RARE. IT WAS NOT A POPULAR COLOR IN 1971 MUSCLE CARS. THIS PARTICULAR CAR WAS NOT ONLY ORDERED WITH CODE 61 SANDALWOOD, THE BUYER ALSO ORDERED SANDALWOOD INTERIOR WITH BLUE REFLECTIVE STRIPES WITH OPTIONAL POWER OPTIONS OF POWER BRAKES, POWER STEERING AND A/C (INOP). LOOKS REALLY SHARP ACTUALLY. YOU WILL DEFINATELY HAVE A VERY UNIQUE CAR THT IS NOW BECOMING A VERY GOOD INVESTMENT AS MORE OF THESE CARS ARE BECOMING KNOWN.
The GT-37 isNOTfully restored, but is what Isay has had a real good re-conditioning. It is a great weekend cruiser. It runs and drives really good, stops straight. The engine block does not match, however, the heads (cast 94), intake manifold, carb etc all seem to belong to the car. Looking under the hood looks really stock. Previous owner said the motor was matching, but the engine blockcode is WD andI don\'t believematch.
I replaced the floor with new pans, and the body was touched up. Thepaint which was painted recently, buffed out and polished. The paint is decent, not show quality, but good is quality in my opinion. There are a few paint chips and flaws in the body, but very presentable. I putthe correct BLUE REFLECTIVE GT-37 Sword stripingon. Replaced door, glove box and trunk locks.Replaced the tires with new RWL 70 tires and new lug nuts and center caps. Replaced the rear coil springs. I also replaced the hood pins and located a lot of missing trim and replaced the weatherstripping and windowfelts. New halogen headlights. I gave the 350 a tune upwith new plugs, cap, rotor and points, new air cleaner. The air conditioner does not work, but it all there under the hood. The heater corehas a small leak so I had to bypass the heater hose. New Flow Tech Red Hots Glass Packs and replaced the exhaust tips. Interior, I replaced the headliner, added carpet, package tray, door sill plates and cleaned and re-dyed the upholstery. The door panels have had some repairs and should be replaced, but I have not been able to locate a good set of standard 71 panels (GTO panels are of a different design). The trunk pans have had patches over the years, it is ok for now, but may be something a new owner can replace in the future. The trunk lid still needs trunk torsion rods to hold the lid up. A few notable things I noted that still may need to be addressed: The RH rear tail light assembly has seen better days, duct work under dash is missing, the fuel guage does not work, chrome bumpers show there age.
Car is being SOLD AS-IS. I tried my best to describe a 46 year old car. There are no guarantees whatsoever. Please email with questions and read the description full. DEPOSIT IS DUE WITHIN 24 HOURS.
