A good customer of ours had been looking for just the right TR-6 for a long time, and this is the car he found. A true TR-6 aficionado, he was after a car with a hard top and overdrive; two of the most desirable original options to be found in a TR-6. As a bonus he found a very pretty French Blue example with redline tires and an original dealer installed A/C as well.
After purchasing this particular car he brought it to our shop for a post purchase inspection. We found numerous issues, some serious and reported our results.
The most serious of issues was the rusted chassis out riggers which is a very common TR-6 issue. These we repaired immediately (see photo)
Other items we found in no particular order:
A slipping clutch - Replaced
Bad u-joints - replaced
Overdrive inoperable - repaired
Loose wheel bearings - serviced
Worn out tie rod ends- replaced
Carbs that needed an overhaul - removed cleaned and rebuilt. Engine tuned
Worn out front suspension - Rebuilt
Dead alternator - Rebuilt
Dented hard top - Repaired and repainted
A/C inoperable - NOT repaired
Our intrepid customer was undaunted and commissioned our shop to undertake repairs. Needless to say this was not an inexpensive operation. Upon completion of all this work we now have a very presentable TR-6, which he now wishes to sell.
Any perspective buyer would be extremely fortunate to purchase this car as the major/expensive recommissioning work has just been performed. Car runs well, starts right up and shifts well. The interior is very nice and clean. This is not a show car, but it is now a very clean and nicely sorted TR-6 that does not require any major work. Odometer reading exceeds mechanical limits.
