OEM Paint andGraphics

Pontiac 400 engine,non-numbers matching. The car came from the factory with a Pontiac 350. OEMFactory number 11 Cameo White paint.

This is a nice, sharp looking and fun Formula that gets alot of attention. This is a realFormula, not a standard Firebird.

This car has noroad salt damage as salt was not used in this State. Rockers and frame rails are solid.

It is a solid, very nice running and driving Formula. It starts right up every time as long as thegas has not evaporated from the carburetor. The 400 sounds nice. Engine is a 1973 Castingnumber 481988 L78, Block code X5, factory rated at 230 HP and 325 lbs. ofTorque. Heads are 4X-7H’s which aresimilar to the 6X-4. This engine israted at 50 more HP than a 1977 L78 400, 30 more than a 1977 W72, and 10 morethan the 1978 -1979 W72. Change thecam, add a larger carburetor and you can easily add more HP. Miles on theengine are unknown; it was purchased used based on a receipt. There was areceipt that came with the documents for a new timing chain and gear dated thesame time a prior owner installed the 400.

I bought the car almost 4 years ago in dry Southern Oregon, then drove it over 4 hours non-stop home on a late Fall night to the Portland area forabout 270 miles with no issues. After that I drove it off and on for a fewweeks then put it into storage, starting and moving it every so often. I havefinally come to the realization that I will never use this Formula and I havedecided to sell it.

I had a professionally installed exhaust system put on withTrans Am chrome exhaust tips shortly after I purchased the car at a cost of$615. Included was a hi-flow modern catalytic converter as I live in anemissions zone. The exhaust system has less than 50 miles on it.

Odometer says 49K, but very likely the miles are 149K.

Automatic Transmission – works fine. It will need a new pangasket. The transmission was leaking, the pan bolts were loose, I tightened thebolts and this slowed the leaking.

Open rear-end with a ratio of 2.73. With the torque of the400 it still moves out well.

Factory 15” Rally II rims. Rear tires are CooperCobra’s. Front tires are standardpassenger tires.

The car has not been butchered up by someone trying tomodify it into a hot rod of some sort. It is very, very original. It is not ashow car and it will need some work.

Car is sold as-is. Please review photos for condition ofcar. The car is 40 years and unrestored. You may inspect or send representative toinspect the vehicle. I have not driven it on the road for about 4 years, and tothe best of my knowledge it still operates the same. I am not a professionalmechanic.

There are some small dents that may not show in thephotos. There is paint de-laminating onthe passenger front fender and above the driver’s rear wheel. I have shot some white primer to help curtailthis in those areas; also there is some white primer on various spots on thehood, driver’s door, and elsewhere where paint was worn. The rear deck lid paint is cracking but withproper care it should hold-up. But this is OEM paint on a 40 year old car. With the OEM paint you know what it is and that the body is not filled withbondo.

The passenger quarter panel is rusted at the bottom which isvery common. You can buy a patch for $40. Floor pans are solid except I found 5 very small pin- holes on thedriver’s floor pan that are plugged with bondo; under the rear passenger seatthere were 2 very small holes that were plugged with same. The trunk pan had a small rust issue on theleft side and was patched. – see photo.

The front corners on the dash have typical rust, and thedriver’s side dash rust extends down a bit.I found a dime-sized hole on the driver’s side cowl by the rubber hoodseal. Door windows have scratches. Will need windowsweeps. The windshield has several internal bubbles in a non-critical area bythe driver’s A-Pillar, and also a gravel-hit on the lower passenger side.

If you are looking for a perfect 1977 Formula be prepared topay the $20K+ price. A very nice 1977 white Formula sold on eBay for $26,100 onOctober 12, 2017. The photos show thebeauty of this unrestored car. This one is priced low. I very likely providedmore details on the car than most eBayer sellers do.

On Oct-21-17 at 06:33:03 PDT, seller added the following information:

In case you are wondering about the reserve, as of Saturday 6:30 AM PST the highest bid is getting very close. There is a super nice white 77 Formula on eBay you can compare prices with. I thought that one sold on Oct. 12 for $26,100 but that did not hit the seller\'s reserve at that date.If you are wanting the 77 Formula I have for sale then do not pass up the opportunity to grab it. I have struggled with wanting to sell the car but I priced it for it would be an easy go.
